RTO VLTD Makers are
certified manufacturers of AIS-140 compliant Vehicle Location Tracking Devices (VLTDs) authorized by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) to supply GPS-based tracking systems for public service vehicles. They register devices on the Vahan portal to enhance passenger safety and meet compliance standards.
Key details regarding VLTD makers include:
- Role & Registration: They are responsible for producing and uploading device inventory, including IMEI and ICCID numbers, to the Vahan portal.
- Compliance & Certification: Devices must be AIS-140 certified by approved testing agencies, such as ARAI, to ensure they meet safety and tracking regulations.
- Approved Manufacturers: Notable approved makers include Trimble Mobility Solutions, PNV Electronics, Accolade Electronics, Danlaw Technologies, Watsoo Express, Lumax Ituran, VDK Engineering, and others.
- Process: Manufacturers must submit a request letter, Type Approval Certificate (TAC), and GST certificate to get authorized through the Parivahan portal.
- Operation: They work alongside Retro Fitment Centres (RFCs) to install devices, which are then linked to the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS).
The system ensures all public service vehicles, such as buses, taxis, and trucks, are equipped with tracking capabilities for immediate monitoring.
